Milwaukee Bucks fans, there’s still reason to celebrate.
Pat Connaughton and his fiancée, Ryan Gareis, welcomed their baby boy, Crew Leo Connaughton, on May 3. Gareis, a professional soccer player for the Houston Dash, announced the news on Instagram Monday with a carousel of adorable photographs.
There’s one showing a radiant Gareis in a hospital bed, clutching the little bundle of joy with Connaughton by her side, all smiles.”We could not possibly love you more big guy!!!” Gareis remarked in his post.
Another photo shows Crew holding plushies of a basketball, soccer ball, baseball, and football, as well as his “first sports bag.” We can see that he is already following in his parents footsteps.Connaughton was a two-sport athlete in college who was drafted to play professional baseball and basketball.
According to a previous Journal Sentinel report, the San Diego Padres took him out of high school in the 38th round of the Major League Baseball draft in 2011, but he never signed. Connaughton attended and played for the University of Notre Dame before being drafted in the fourth round by the Baltimore Orioles in 2014.
He stayed in school his senior year to play basketball and was drafted in the second round by the NBA’s Brooklyn Nets in 2015. He was immediately traded to the Portland Trail Blazers, where he spent almost three years. He’s been with the Bucks for around six years.
The Dash selected Gareis in the fourth round of the 2022 NWSL draft from the University of South Carolina. She got a three-year contract extension that will last until the 2025 season.Off the court, Connaughton owns Three Leaf Partners, a real estate development company, and the Pat Connaughton Foundation, which refurbishes basketball courts and gymnasiums.Connaughton and Gareis officially launched their romance on social media in June 2023. The pair announced their pregnancy on Instagram in January 2024, and they got engaged in February.
