Mbappe prepares to go as PSG processes their Champions League exit

Sunday’s matchup between Paris Saint-Germain and Toulouse, their first since being knocked out of the Champions League, is expected to mark Kylian Mbappe’s final match for the team at the Parc des Princes.

After losing 1-0 at home in the second leg of their semifinal match against Borussia Dortmund, PSG’s quest for elusive European glory will continue into the next year. This resulted in an unexpecteԀ 2-0 aggregate loss.

As a result, Mbappe will leave PSG after seven years without ever winning Europe’s premier club trophy, and he will not receive the send-off he had planned for in the Champions League final at Wembley on June 1.

Mbappe notified PSG in sеcrеt in February that he intended to leave when his current contract expired at the end of the season.

The 25-year-old has never officially stated as much, much less disclosed his future plans, yet it seems inevitable that he will end up at Real Madrid.

While PSG still has a chance to win a slew of domestic titles, Mbappe and his current team will aim to close the season on a strong note.

They have already won the Ligue 1 championship—their tenth in the previous twelve seasons—and will collect the trophy following their final home game of the season on Sunday against Toulouse, who is ranked in the middle of the pack.

On May 25, PSG and Lyon will square off in the French Cup final in Lille. PSG has also won the Champions Trophy, which is France’s version of the Suρer Cup.

“Not everything needs to go in the trаsh. “We still have goals to achieve and the French Cup final to attend,” Mbappe stated to reporters following Dortmund’s loss.

“We will not stop working. We’ll want to win that championship game before evaluating the season’s performance and what worked and what didn’t.”

Mbappe has scored 43 goals this season in all competitions, 26 of which have come in Ligue 1. He did not score in either leg of the Dortmund match.

In that Cup final, Mbappe will still aim to add to his club-record 255 goals for PSG and earn another trophy. In his seven years with his home team, Mbappe has already won six Ligue 1 crowns, three French Cups, and the now-defunct League Cup thrice.

Thijs Dallinga (L) in action for Toulouse against Nice earlier this season

Following Sunday’s match, PSG will play away games against relegation-threatened Metz and Nice to finish their league campaign, and then Mbappe will play his farewell game for the team in that Cup final.

Keep an eye on: Thijs Dallinga

The Dutch striker has scored eighteen goals for Toulouse this season in all competitions, building on an outstanding debut campaign in French football.

The 23-year-old Dallinga made his Netherlands debut in November and is seeking to be called up for Euro 2024. He would benefit from a strong showing this weekend against PSG, which might also persuade other teams to approach Toulouse with a summertime proposal.
