Kylian Mbappe has said he will leave Paris Saint-Germain this summer.
The French forward is out of contract and is poised to join Real Madrid in a blockbuster deal.
Mbappe verbally agreed to transfer to the Santiago Bernabeu back in February, and the move has long been expected to happen.
The attacker is projected to earn £13 million per year in La Liga as the Spanish giants seek to add one of the world’s best players to their roster.
Mbappe stated on social media: “I’ve always said that I’d talk with you when the time comes, and I wanted to inform you all that this is my final year at Paris Saint-Germain. I will not renew (my contract), and this experience will come to an end in a few weeks. I’ll play my final game at Parc des Princes on Sunday.
“I feel a lot of emotions. I had the opportunity and privilege of being a member of the largest French club, one of the best in the world, which allowed me to come here and gain my first experience in a high-pressure environment. To improve as a player, of course, by working with some of the best (players) in history. Some of the greatest champions. To meet many people while also growing as a guy through all of my glory and failures.”
Mbappe said, “It’s challenging. I never imagined it would be so difficult to announce that I will be leaving my nation. France, the Ligue 1, is a championship I’ve always known, but I believe I need this. A fresh task after seven years.
“Of course, there is one group of people I want to thank the most: the fans. I realize I’m not the most outgoing player. I haven’t always lived up to the love you’ve given me over the past seven years, but I’ve never wanted to cheat. I’ve always wanted to be effective.
“PSG is a club that leaves no one indifferent. We can either love or despise it. I chose to love it, and I did for seven years, despite the ups and downs. I have no regrets about signing for this great club. I’ll remember this club for the rest of my life. I’ll tell everyone that I had the opportunity to play here. Although I will no longer be a player here, I will continue to watch every game because it is a club that I am always interested in and constantly follow.
“It was me, with my flaws and strengths, but I tried to be the best version of myself over those seven years. I want to thank you because without you, I would not have felt half of the feelings I did. For that, I am thankful for life. Thank you all, and I hope to end the year with a final trophy. We’ll have good moments for what’s left, and believe me, you’ll be in my heart forever. Goodbye.”
