Aurelien Thouaméni will not arrive in time to compete in the Champions League final. The Frenchman suffered an injury against Bayern in the second leg of the top continental competition’s semi-final, but a broken third metatarsal in his left foot will preclude him from facing Borussia Dortmund.
The Frenchman is doing everything in his power, but the injury will prevent him from competing at Wembley, so his goal now is to qualify for the Euro Cup, a difficult situation, but it will be Deschamps who must decide whether to risk the French midfielder’s left foot injury.
Eduardo Camavinga will take on the role of midfielder against Borussia Dortmund, a less positional player than Thouameni but one who creates more opportunities for the ball to depart due to his verticality and ability to burst down lines.
Prior to his injury, Tchouaméni had taken over the starting role, either in midfield or defense, a position he has played with some consistency this season but does not entirely identify with. Football and his performance will ultimately determine his final position. This season, he played 38 games and scored three goals in the League Championship.
