Malaria has become a rapidly spreading issue in areas with a high number of mosquitoes. Unfortunately, many families in these regions cannot afford mosquito nets to protect their children and loved ones while they sleep. In response to this, Stephen Curry made a promise that upon returning to the United States, he would provide mosquito nets to numerous families.

True to his word, Curry collaborated with the United Nations to establish the Nothing But Nets campaign, with the sole objective of eliminating malaria in Sub-Saharan Africa. The mosquito nets that he helped distribute have successfully saved the lives of thousands of young individuals. Beat Malaria.org highlights the vulnerability of children under the age of five, who are particularly susceptible to the disease transmitted by mosquitoes.

According to the organization’s website, a child’s life is claimed by malaria every sixty seconds. In 2013, Curry publicly pledged to donate three mosquito nets to Tanzanian families for every three-pointer he made. Due to his exceptional basketball skills that year, he was able to provide 816 nets to the Nyarugusu Refugee Camp in Tanzania.
