Kylian Mbappé, 25, took on new responsibilities at the Formula 1 Monaco Grand Prix on Sunday, having played his final game for Paris Saint-Germain in the Coupe de France final on Saturday.  

Having spent his early career playing football for Les Monégasques, the France captain is no stranger to the city. The principality welcomed Mbappé back as it staged its yearly Formula 1 race, which has grown to be one of the most glitzy events on the sports calendar. 

It soon became clear that PSG forward Charles Leclerc had been selected to wave the checkered flag as the victor reached the finish line, as the laps were rapidly approaching their conclusion and Leclerc, a hometown driver, was leading the race. The winner was none other than the previously mentioned Leclerc, the Ferrari driver capping an appalling performance in his home race with the former Monaco forward waving the checkered flag.
