Anthony Davis is undeniably one of the most stylish players in the NBA, often seen sporting fashionable attire and flaunting his jewelry and car collection both on and off the court.
With career earnings surpassing $188 million, AD has had the means to indulge in various extravagances. During his time with the New Orleans Pelicans, the 6-foot-10 forward made a rather unconventional purchase – a pet monkey named Meek. Davis acquired Meek after being inspired by a teammate who had a monkey that would perform tricks in the locker room.
In an appearance on “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” the 8-time All-Star revealed the inspiration behind his decision to get a pet monkey. However, unlike his teammate’s monkey, Meek failed to live up to expectations. Despite having the monkey for about a year and a half, Davis ultimately returned it, realizing that owning a monkey wasn’t for him.
Given that Davis was likely on his rookie scale contract at the time of acquiring Meek, this purchase was certainly extravagant, considering his relatively modest earnings compared to his later contracts.
Reflecting on the experience, Davis admitted that he didn’t have the motivation to train Meek or engage in the same tricks his teammate’s monkey could perform. This anecdote serves as a reminder that money can’t buy everything, and sometimes, even the flashiest purchases may not bring the expected satisfaction.
