As Jayson Tatum reminded everyone, golf is a very difficult game even for best players.
The Celtics player flew to Memphis for the FedEx St. Jude Championship, his first-ever pro-am golf tournament. Tatum had a simple goal in mind, and the PGA Tour posted a social media update on his day.
Just praying I don’t seem foolish, Tatum remarked before to the event. My only goals for today are to enjoy myself and hit a few nice balls.
Another great athlete was playing with Tatum; this one was a little more comfortable with a club. Wednesday saw Tatum and Jon Rahm team up on the tee box. This weekend, Rahm is competing at the major PGA tour event. The fact that Tatum adores Rahm more than any other golfer makes the event exciting and unsettling at the same time.
Tatum remarked, “I couldn’t get any sleep last night when they told me.”
Tatum said that he became comfortable and began to enjoy himself after hitting his first fairway with his tee shot. Despite his limited golfing experience, the NBA player had a great time at his first live tournament.
Observing how happy fellow NBA star Stephen Curry is when playing the game—especially after he hits a hole-in-one in front of a crowd—probably doesn’t hurt. Having spent a few years playing AAU basketball in Memphis, Tatum felt that the game held even greater significance there. Considering all, it seems Tatum succeeded in his goal of having some fun.
“I had no idea what to anticipate, yet it was laid back and mellow. It was a wonderful experience because of everyone, Tatum stated. “It was a lot of fun because I got to play with Rahm, great guy.”
