While trying to conquer the EURO 2024 championship with the Spanish team, defender Nacho confirmed that he will not continue to contribute to Real Madrid. Although he is not a legend at Real, he is the type of player that makes any coach or teammate admire him because of his professionalism, loyalty and dedication.
A few days ago, Marca newspaper revealed that Real’s Board of Directors had convinced Nacho to extend his contract for another year. The above move proves that they do not want to lose the 34-year-old Spanish genius when the agreement between the parties expires. However, all efforts to retain Nacho by president Florentino Perez were ultimately ineffective.
In a new letter sent to fans of the Royal Spanish team, Nacho clearly stated: “After 24 years of dedicating myself to Real, it is time for my career to turn a new page. When I no longer belong to Real, I want you to always remember me as the player who has been with the team since I was a boy. In any stage, I always do everything I can to benefit the club.”
Unlike Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema, Toni Kroos or Luka Modric, who are Real’s prominent names, Nacho has never had a solid foothold in the main team of the “White Vultures”. The proof is that in 14 seasons playing for the first team, in no season did he reach the mark of 30 appearances in La Liga.
However, last season Nacho also showed his importance when he played the entire 2023/24 Champions League final between Real and Dortmund. As captain, he contributed to helping Real defeat the German representative 2-0 to win the C1 Cup/Champions League for the 15th time.
As for Nacho, he has won the most prestigious club tournament in Europe with Real 6 times. At the Bernabeu, there are only two rare players who can do the same thing as Nacho: Luka Modric and Dani Carvajal. Having said that, what Nacho did with Real before moving to Saudi Arabia to play for Al Qadsiah is truly admirable.
Organic natural musk incensePlaying as a defender and quite reserved, Nacho basically attracts less attention from the audience and media like attacking stars. However, that does not mean his silent contributions to Real are not recognized. On the contrary, the player who won 26 titles with the “White Vultures” also has a very solemn place in the hearts of teammates and coaches who have worked with him.
For example, Jose Mourinho, the coach who left Real in 2013, still retains good memories of the student he introduced to the first team (Real won 6-3 against Valencia at the Mestalla in 2011).
Asked about Nacho, the famous Portuguese strategist said: “I am proud of Nacho. When I first introduced him, he was young but mature like a grown man. From the match against Valencia to the 2023/24 Champions League final is a long road. When Nacho has overcome such a journey, I cannot help but be proud to have a student like him.”
Like coach Mourinho, another famous coach, Vicente Del Bosque (former coach of Real and the Spanish national team), also had good words for Nacho: “Before contacting Nacho, I heard from my colleagues. say good things about him. Indeed, Nacho makes everyone admire him because of his wonderful behavior and thinking.”
“Nacho has had a brilliant career and I am happy for him because he has achieved something that many people dream of. That is a completely worthy reward for Nacho’s efforts,” coach Del Bosque affirmed.
Meanwhile, one of Nacho’s closest friends in the Real youth team, David Mateos (who later only played for average clubs like AEK Athens, Ferencvaros, Orlando City or Guangxi Pingguo Haliao) said about his former teammate: after: “I am really impressed with Nacho’s simplicity. His strongest point probably lies in his poise. As always, Nacho always knows how to handle his situations, which are never simple, in the most reasonable way.”
“When Nacho retires, I think he will turn to cattle farming. Nacho loves bullfighting and in fact he has contributed capital to open a farm with famous bullfighter Alejandro Talavante. With Nacho’s personality, I don’t think he is suitable for coaching,” Mateos asserted.
For his part, teammate Lucas Vazquez, who has worked side by side with Nacho at Real for many years, briefly shared: “Every time he goes on the field, Nacho always helps the surrounding satellites by giving his all. He is the type of player born to be a leader. Nacho’s seriousness and professionalism are amazing. For me, Nacho is a great example at the Bernabeu. It wouldn’t be too much if I considered him a legend of the team.”
Through the comments of the coaches and teammates about Nacho, it can be clearly seen that the value of this player is huge. With what he has done, there is no need for a statue to be erected at the Bernabeu, Nacho still has the right to be proud because he has become a star in the hearts of fans.
