Jayson Tatum set a record that neither Michael Jordan nor LeBron James could claim

Jayson Tatum was left on the outside looking in at the 2024 NBA Finals MVP competition, which his colleague Jaylen Brown won, but he did accomplish a first that is only now being recognised.

The record spans his basketball career from his teenage years to the present day, and it is something that neither Michael Jordan nor LeBron James can claim.

Tatum is the only basketball player in history to win gold medals in the Olympics, FIBA U19 World Cup, FIBA U17 World Cup, and FIBA U16 World Cup, as well as an NBA championship, according to the official FIBA Twitter account.

Tatum will have the opportunity to add to his trophy collection this summer, as Team USA prepares to compete in the Paris Olympics.

Tatum is one of 12 players on the team, along with his Celtics teammate Jrue Holiday. Team USA will be aiming for its fifth consecutive Olympic gold medal, having won the last one in Tokyo in 2021.

This past season, the 26-year-old Duke Blue Devils alumni averaged over 27 points per game, 8.1 rebounds, and shot over 47 percent from the field.

This year’s Team USA coaching staff will include Steve Kerr, Mark Few, Tyronn Lue, and Erik Spoelstra, with Tatum, Stephen Curry, Kevin Durant, LeBron James, and others competing for gold. The team’s first game is scheduled for July 28 against reigning regular-season NBA MVP Nikola Jokic and Serbia’s men’s team.
