The Selecao gave a terrible performance in a dismal penalty kick loss against Marcelo Bielsa’s side.
Brazil had another significant tournament letdown with a poor attacking performance against Uruguay in the Copa América quarterfinals. The regulation game ended in a 0-0 draw. La Celeste defeated the Seelcao 4-2 in the ensuing penalty shootout, progressing to the semifinals where they will face James Rodriguez and Colombia.
Goalkeeper and Defense:
Alisson (6/10)
Untested in regular time. There was just one save to make, and I handled it comfortably. Stopped one penalty in the shootout.
Danilo (6/10):
An experienced performance from the right-back. I was able to control the space and did not lose any challenges.
Eder Militao (4/10):
Won all of his ground duels and tracked efficiently. His death, however, was not without tragedy. He missed his penalty.
Marquinho (5/10):
I tried chasing the lively Nunez around, but it had no effect. When the Liverpool man was gone, the situation appeared to improve significantly.
Guilherme Arana (6/10):
Put up a shift against the energetic Facundo Pellistri and recorded five interceptions. However, future quality is severely deficient.
Midfield
João Gomes (5/10):
He seems determined to spend the game clattering everything wearing blue. Completed only 73% of his passes.
Bruno Guimarães (7/10):
Up for the fight, got away with a few fouls, and was one of the few that looked after the ball consistently.
Lucas Paqueta(5/10):
I tried to orchestrate from a No.10 position, but there was hardly enough room to think. When given the opportunity to breathe, he clung on the ball for much too long.
Attack
Rodrygo (7/10):
I struggled to make an impression in the first half. The second half was much better, with Uruguay’s defence in knots.
Enderick (6/10):
Finally, we have a start. Every time he touched the ball, it clattered. Made some noise with some half-chances.
Raphinha (6/10):
He had a few nice chances in the first half, but his influence decreased afterwards.
