Real Madrid announces the date of the superstar striker’s Bernabeu introduction and confirms Kylian Mbappe’s squad number

Kylian Mbappe’s debut season at Real Madrid will see him wear the No. 9 shirt, the club has revealed.

The European champions have also disclosed that next Tuesday at noon (11am UK time), Mbappe will be formally introduced to the supporters at the Santiago Bernabeu stadium.

For the most part of his time at Paris Saint-Germain, Mbappe wore the No. 7 jersey, although Vinicius Junior of Real Madrid presently wears it. Mbappe, meanwhile, was France’s No. 10 at Euro 2024—a position that Luka Modric has held at the Bernabeu since 2017.

Spain eliminated France from Euro 2024 on Tuesday night in the semi-finals. Madrid had held off on making a formal announcement about Mbappe’s debut until after his Euros participation ended.

“Real Madrid C. F. is pleased to announce that Kylian Mbappe will be presented at the Santiago Bernabéu stadium on Tuesday, July 16 at noon,” the team said in a statement released on Wednesday afternoon.

The decision to assign Mbappe to wear the No. 9 jersey—which had been empty since Karim Benzema left at the end of the 2022–2023 season—was then confirmed by a second club statement.
