James scored the final 11 points for the Americans down the stretch, securing a 92-88 victory over World Cup champions Germany in London on Monday night, marking their final preparation before the Paris Games begin later this week. He was earlier named the male flagbearer for the Americans at Friday night’s opening ceremony along the River Seine — with the female flagbearer to be revealed on Tuesday. This performance mirrored his clutch play over the weekend when his layup in the final seconds secured a 101-100 win against upstart South Sudan.

James finished with 20 points, complemented by Joel Embiid with 15, Stephen Curry with 13, and Anthony Edwards with 11.Preview

“It was a significant test for us, and I’m pleased that we were able to maintain our composure and persevere, as we did against South Sudan the other day,” James commented. “This was an important win for us.”

Franz Wagner led Germany with 18 points, while Andreas Obst, key in Germany’s previous victory over the U.S. in the World Cup semifinals, contributed 14 points, and Dennis Schroder had a 13-point, 10-assist performance. Daniel Theis added 13 points, and Moritz Wagner scored 12 for Germany.Preview

Team USA concluded their exhibition schedule with a perfect 5-0 record, though only one game was a comfortable win, against Serbia, who they will face in their first Olympic match on Sunday.

Canada and Australia presented challenges, and South Sudan almost caused an upset as 43.5-point underdogs. On Monday, Germany led the U.S. with just 4 minutes remaining, before James took control, outscoring Germany 11-6 by himself in the final 3:57.Preview

Now, all eyes turn to Paris, where the real competition begins this weekend.

“We’ve encountered every possible scenario,” Curry noted. “Now it’s about stepping up when the spotlight is brightest next week. I believe we’re prepared. Now we have to deliver.”
