After making a sensational move to Real Madrid, Kylian Mbappe is not the most paid player in La Liga; Jude Bellingham and a target for Manchester United are in the top ten earnings

After being officially revealed as a Real Madrid player this week, Kylian Mbappe will be among the biggest names in La Liga next season, although he is expected to fall short of the top salary.

Following his free transfer to the Spanish powerhouses earlier this summer, the France captain was introduced to a raucous Bernabeu stadium.

Following the end of Euro 2024, where he led Le Bleus to the semifinals, he had his physical on Tuesday.

Mbappe chose to stay with his former team PSG, who seemed to throw every available euro at him to make sure he stayed in the French city, despite being long linked to a move to Madrid.

The 25-year-old made milliоns as a result, but since moving to Madrid, his salary has decreased.

Kylian Mbappe was finally unveiled as a Real Marid player to a packed Bernabeu stadium last week

The Sun claims that although Mbappe will be the club’s biggest earner, he will not be the division’s top scorer. According to them, Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong, who has been linked to a move to Manchester United in recent seasons, makes £31.6 million a year in La Liga to achieve that distinction. Actually, the top two slots are occupied by Barcelona players, with Robert Lewandowski, his teammate, earning an estimated £28.2 million. Mbappe follows, earning £26.3 million a season. Mbappe will receive a substantial signing bonus, estimated to be worth over €100 million (£85.6 million), in addition to keeping an 80% share of the image rights in any future commercial agreements he enters after joining Real Madrid, despite losing out on basic pay. This deviates from the customary 50/50 split that the club imposes on new members.

The data follows La Liga’s announcement last month of the most recent pay caps for all Spanish clubs. These numbers, which control each club’s transactions in the transfer market, are computed based on their estimated revenue and expenses. Real Madrid can afford to recruit Mbappe without having to sell since they have the highest wage ceiling, set at €727 million (£622.5 million). For Barcelona, the news was much worse because their salary cap is only €204 million.

Atletico Madrid's Jan Oblak is the only top 10 player not to play for Real Madrid or Barcelona

This implies they will need to sell players this summer in order to make room for new players, as their current wage expenditure is around €200 million (£171 million) above this amount. Six Real Madrid players are ranked in the top 10, including Mbappe. The two biggest teams in Spain, along with three players from Barcelona, are responsible for the highest salaries in the top division. The story claims that Jan Oblak, the stopper for Atletico Madrid, is the lone exception. With an annual salary of £17.5 million—the same amount that Madrid winger Vinicius Jr. pockets—he just misses out on a spot in the top five.

He joined the side last summer and enjoyed a stunning debut season that – along with his team-mate Vinicius Jnr – has seen him listed among the leading contenders for the Ballon d’Or.
