Jerami Grant, a seasoned forward with the Portland Trail Blazers, finds himself at the center of trade speculation given the team’s current rebuilding phase. His presence on the roster makes him a prime candidate for trade discussions throughout his tenure in the Pacific Northwest.
Bleacher Report’s Andy Bailey has floated an intriguing three-team trade scenario involving the Orlando Magic and the Los Angeles Lakers, which would see Grant heading to Los Angeles. The proposed trade would look like this:
Blazers Receive: Gabe Vincent, Jarred Vanderbilt, Jett Howard, a 2025 first-round pick from Orlando (via Denver), and a top-three protected 2029 first-round pick from the Lakers.
Blazers Send: Jerami Grant and a 2028 second-round pick (via Golden State).
For the Blazers, this trade presents a compelling opportunity. With the team likely to contend for the worst record in the Western Conference this season, Grant’s win-now mentality doesn’t align with their long-term goals. His contract, which runs through the 2027-28 season with a $36.4 million player option, could be seen as a liability for a team focused on rebuilding.
The proposed deal offers Portland a chance to offload Grant’s contract and acquire valuable assets, including multiple future draft picks, potential in Jett Howard, and tradeable veterans in Gabe Vincent and Jarred Vanderbilt. While the Blazers aren’t rushing to move Grant, the offer of two future first-round picks and a recent lottery pick could be enticing. This deal would also give Portland flexibility to potentially trade Vincent and Vanderbilt for further assets.
Although the Blazers might find a more advantageous deal for Grant, this proposal warrants serious consideration if it comes on the table.
