During an NBA Summer League game between the Lakers and the Celtics, Boston star Jaylen Brown was overheard calling Bronny James “unprofessional” while sitting courtside.
Brown is shown bending over to Angel Reese, a WNBA standout, and Kysre Gondrezick, a fellow Chicago Sky player and girlfriend, to share his feelings about LeBron James’ eldest child, a Laker colleague.
Reese and Gondrezick appear to agree with Brown’s attitude, as the Boston Celtics player shook his head in disapproval.
Bronny James was taken by Los Angeles at number 55 overall in last month’s NBA draft, with major assistance from his father and their agent, Rich Paul, who reportedly called other teams to encourage them not to pick the former USC guard or he would play overseas.
Bronny’s performance in the NBA Summer League has been disappointing; since donning the yellow and purple, he is 0 for 15 from 3-point range.
Realizing he got caught by cameras, Brown walked back his stance a bit early Tuesday morning on social media.
“Having your son play in the NBA with you is a flex; it shows greatness and longevity,” Brown remarked. “Bronny has everything he needs to succeed around him; I’m excited to watch him grow.”
Although there has been much speculation about Bronny’s career trajectory in the absence of his father being one of the greatest basketball players of all time, Brown did not contradict his allegation that Bronny is not up to NBA standards.
After his father’s team selected him in the second round, Bronny signed a four-year, $7.9 million contract, the second-largest NBA rookie contract ever.
The son of LeBron James is barely behind Sacramento’s Colby Jones, the previous year’s No. 34 overall pick who signed a contract worth $8.8 million.
LeBron isn’t at Bronny’s games because he didn’t make Team USA for the Olympics this month, but Brown has.
LeBron, Jayson Tatum, and Derrick White, two of Brown’s Celtics teammates, are among the twelve players on the roster.
