Jadon Sancho is at the center of attention this summer, with buzz surrounding both his potential high-profile Premier League return and the launch of his very first signature Nike collection, despite being just 20 years old. We had the chance to dive into his thoughts on these exciting developments, his role with England, and his off-field interests.
Securing a signature collection is a rare accolade, and Sancho’s impressive performance stats certainly justify the honor. With 19 goals and 18 assists across 32 Bundesliga and Champions League games this season, it’s clear his star is rising. Yet, Sancho remains remarkably down-to-earth, as revealed in our conversation about his personal and professional life.
On his recent break, Sancho reflected, “It was refreshing to spend time with family and friends. I rarely get to see them, so it was great to just relax and disconnect. By the end of my break, I was definitely itching to get back on the pitch.”
He also shared how he processes his success, saying, “The moments when it really hits me are when I’m with my family, especially my mum. Seeing their pride in me is incredibly rewarding. It’s amazing to think about how far we’ve come and to be able to share these experiences with them. It’s a reminder of how much I want to make them proud.”
Regarding his sneaker collection, Sancho stayed low-key during the lockdown. “I didn’t add to my collection. Instead, I focused on maintaining my diet and relaxing. Most of my time was spent on PlayStation, playing in tournaments with friends. It was a good way to stay connected and entertained during the pandemic.”
With all the media speculation swirling around him, Sancho tries to keep a distance. “I avoid getting caught up in media chatter. It’s easy to be distracted by it, and it can affect performance. I prefer to focus on my game and continuous improvement, keeping a positive mindset.”
Reflecting on the recent unusual football environment, Sancho said, “The empty stadiums were definitely odd, but I made the best of it. Scoring my first professional hat-trick in an empty stadium was a unique experience. I’m really looking forward to having fans back in the stands.”
On the Euros being postponed, Sancho admitted, “I was disappointed. I felt ready to contribute this season. But the delay gives me more time to secure my place in the England squad. We have a lot of talented young players like Bukayo Saka and Mason Greenwood. The competition is fierce, and it’s exciting to see how things unfold.”
When discussing England’s young talent, Sancho emphasized their vibrancy. “Our squad’s youth brings fresh energy. We’re eager to make an impact and excite the fans. Each player is determined to seize every chance and show what they can do. There’s a lot of creativity in our team.”
Sancho views his signature collection as a milestone and an inspiration. “This collection represents a big step for me and serves as a message to kids from my area. The design features ‘Poppin out of Kennington’ and personal elements like the ‘No Ball Games’ sign, reflecting my roots and experiences. It’s about showing that dreams can come true with belief and hard work.”
He added, “The boot also has ‘Megz’ and ‘Vibez’ on it, highlighting my love for football and the fun I had growing up. It’s a way to share my journey and experiences with others.”
Sancho is proud to represent Kennington and hopes his collection will inspire future generations. “Kennington will always be special to me. I want to show that anything is possible, and if the boot does well, it will be a stepping stone for more great things.”
Looking back on his journey, Sancho credits his early departure from home for his growth. “Leaving home young was challenging, but it helped me mature quickly. I learned that sacrifices are necessary for progress, and once I understood that, adapting to new situations became easier.”
Joining the ranks of players with signature releases, like CR7 and Mbappé, feels incredible to Sancho. “It’s amazing to be mentioned alongside such legends. Mbappé’s achievements are inspiring, and Ronaldo’s career is remarkable. I hope to build a career as successful as theirs.”
