Despite struggling to settle into his routine in his first Olympics, Warriors star Steph Curry is remaining upbeat with Team USA.
The greatest shooter in history, Curry, only attempted three shots on Tuesday as the United States defeated Brazil 122-87. In roughly 17 minutes, he finished with seven points and one rebound.
The 3-point king, however, is continuing to play with a selfless mindset on his limited opportunities on the court and is instead concentrating on doing all it takes to support the team as they pursue the gold.
Curry remarked after the game, “A lot of my job on this team is to create attention and open up shots for other guys” (h/t Ron Kroichick of The San Francisco Chronicle). “They’re not coming in that often. There will be a good look for me as long as I continue to cut aggressively and play off the ball since we have so many excellent passers, finishers, and shooters.
Curry concluded with three points against South Sudan and eight points against Puerto Rico, respectively, following his Olympic debut in which he scored eleven points.
Curry scored a layup with seven minutes left in the contest against South Sudan. He only had one bucket in the competition. The 36-year-old missed every one of his six 3-point attempts and finished just 1 for 9 from the field.
Three days later, he looked promising right from the start in Team USA’s lopsided victory over Puerto Rico, scoring five points in the first quarter, eight in the second, and none in the fourth before being benched.

Curry’s mere presence on the court makes him a threаt, and his off-ball movement creates opportunities for both himself and other players. For a brief moment in the second quarter, Curry broke free from a Jrue Holiday screen and drained a fiercely contested 3-pointer, garnering a foul and missing all of his free throw tries. Two open layups that he scored on assists from LeBron James accounted for his other points.Team USA coach Steve Kerr stated, “That’s the beauty and the strength of our team is that it can be any one of these guys” (via The Athletic’s Joe Vardon). “When they return to the NBA, they will each need to represent their respective teams independently. Thus, the squad’s strength lies in the fact that we know they can lead our team on any given day, but we never know who will.Again on Tuesday, Curry had almost little effect on Team USA’s scoring. However, the Americans’ depth once again demonstrated their ability to completely destrоy the enemy.
