NOBLE MISSION: Arsenal star Leandro Trossard establishes Belgian Red Court in birthplace to bring together old and young people

Leandro Trossard is currently doing effectively for Arsenal FC. Racing Genk was the Red Devils’ most successful club in Belgium. Today, he returns to his football origins, opening the second Belgian Red Court in Limburg alongside Mayor Wim Dries.

With these communal football fields, KBVB hopes to bring together old and young people through football, making the sport more accessible and encouraging social cohesion in Genk.

Since 2022, KBVB has been transforming old football fields into modern mini-football temples. It achieves this with the help of Proximus, Adidas, and National Lottery participants. After Lier, Hasselt, Sint-Niklaas, Lokeren, and Waregem, Genk currently holds the honour, with the Red Court travelling to Hobbyland. And it does not end there. In the future years, the number of Red Courts will rise to 40.

The Red Devils’ former Racing Genk captain, Leandro Trossard, will serve as ambassador. Trossard played 120 games for Racing Genk, helping the club win the championship in 2019. Trossard booted a ball today with Mayor Wim Dries and Genk’s youth, officially opening the Genk Red Court.

“As a football player, I owe Genk a lot. I experienced great moments with both the youth team and the first team. I’ve been playing abroad for a few years, but the people of Genk clearly haven’t forgotten me. They always welcomed me with open arms. I’m happy to be able to give something back to the city that has given me so much. Perhaps a future Red Devil will soon kick his first ball on this Red Stadium, although I especially hope that it will become a gathering place for the people of Genk. ” Leandro Trossard expressed

The Red Stadium in Genk’s opening ceremony also serves as the kickoff for a variety of activities on the decorated football pitch. Football matches, for example, are organised, but so are other football events to promote social harmony in the city, such as in collaboration with the local non-profit organisation Gigos.
