Manchester United already have Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee in their striker roster, yet they continue to be linked with new forwards. It begs the question: why pursue another striker when the position seems well-covered? Given their recent track record with transfers, a move for an additional striker would be surprising, even for them.
One player frequently mentioned is Evan Ferguson of Brighton & Hove Albion. The 19-year-old Irish prodigy has been on United’s radar for a while.
Recent reports from the Daily Star suggest that Manchester United, under the guidance of Dan Ashworth, is preparing a lowball offer of around £50 million for Ferguson. However, there’s a growing concern that Chelsea might swoop in if United don’t act swiftly. Nonetheless, this proposed bid falls significantly short of Brighton’s £100 million asking price. According to Ben Jacobs, Brighton is unlikely to entertain an offer that is half of their valuation.
Brighton is known for their financial prudence and rarely needs to sell players to balance their books. They typically manage to sell for more than they spend, so sticking to their £100 million price tag for Ferguson might well sideline Manchester United’s interest.
Given that United has already invested significantly in strikers recently, dropping £100 million on another forward would seem like an excessive and ill-advised expenditure. With other areas of the team in need of reinforcement, it would be more sensible for Manchester United to shift their focus to more pressing priorities rather than chasing a striker.
