Manchester United needs to offload players to raise funds this summer, and Aaron Wan-Bissaka is on the verge of leaving the club. The transfer of the Manchester United defender to West Ham could be announced as soon as Tuesday.
Club sources have indicated that while it was uncertain whether Wan-Bissaka’s move to London would be finalized on Monday, they confirmed that the deal is progressing well. West Ham is poised to sign Wan-Bissaka for £15 million, and his imminent departure will facilitate Manchester United’s acquisition of Noussair Mazraoui from Bayern Munich.
Wan-Bissaka’s contract, which was extended by one year in January, has made him available for transfer as United seeks to recover a fee for him. The 26-year-old has spent five years at Manchester United, winning the Carabao Cup and FA Cup during his tenure.
Signed for £50 million from Crystal Palace in the summer of 2019, Wan-Bissaka’s role was challenged by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s interest in Kieran Trippier from Atletico Madrid. Eventually, Wan-Bissaka lost his starting position to Diogo Dalot but managed to reclaim it after the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. By the end of Erik ten Hag’s first season, he had reestablished himself as the first-choice right-back, although he continued to compete with Dalot in the 2023/24 season.
While Wan-Bissaka’s attacking contributions were limited, his defensive skills, particularly in one-on-one situations, were exceptional and among the best in the Premier League. He was instrumental in Manchester United’s Carabao Cup and FA Cup victories in 2023 and 2024, respectively, delivering standout performances in both finals.
Wan-Bissaka’s last competitive appearance for United was in the FA Cup final. He traveled with the team for the pre-season tour in the United States but missed the Community Shield defeat. He will depart from United having made 190 appearances and scored two goals for the club.
