MANCHESTER UNITED have completed an impressive £60 million transfer for Bayern Munich’s Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui. The defensive pair signed long-term contracts after arriving in the UK on Monday. De Ligt, 25, becomes United’s third summer signing following Leny Yoro and Joshua Zirkzee. He believes manager Erik ten Hag will help him excel at Old Trafford. De Ligt expressed his excitement about joining such a historic club and praised the club’s vision and role for him. He added that Ten Hag’s guidance has been instrumental in his career, and he’s eager to work with him again.
Mazraoui, 26, was announced shortly after and will take over from Aaron Wan-Bissaka, who has moved to West Ham. The transfer for De Ligt is reported to be around £45 million, while Mazraoui’s cost £15 million. Mazraoui shared his enthusiasm about joining United and looks forward to playing at Old Trafford, sharing the collective ambition to win trophies.
De Ligt’s contract extends until June 2029 with a one-year option, and Mazraoui’s deal runs until June 2028 with a similar option. Both players previously played together at Ajax under Ten Hag. They are expected to feature in the starting lineup for United’s upcoming match against Fulham at Old Trafford.
With these signings, Ten Hag now has five former Ajax players in his squad, including Andre Onana, Antony, and Lisandro Martinez. The Dutch influence at United has also been reinforced with the acquisition of Euro star Zirkzee. Additionally, fan favorite Ruud van Nistelrooy has joined Rene Hake as one of Ten Hag’s new assistants. This flurry of activity follows United’s recent Community Shield defeat to Manchester City on penalties.
