Ben Chilwell has reportedly been offered to Manchester United after being informed this week that he is not in Enzo Maresca’s plans at Chelsea. Chilwell has been training away from the first-team squad, along with other high-profile players such as Raheem Sterling.
According to talkSPORT, Manchester United now has the opportunity to sign the 27-year-old left-back. Earlier this summer, the Red Devils had shown interest in Chilwell due to their ongoing issues at left-back.
With Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia currently injured, Erik ten Hag had to field Diogo Dalot on the left side of defense during the match against Fulham on Friday. Chelsea is reportedly open to letting Chilwell go if a suitable offer is made.
Chilwell is also evaluating his transfer options after being excluded from Chelsea’s season opener. Marc Cucurella started in Chilwell’s place for Sunday’s defeat to Manchester City, as Maresca has stated that Chilwell does not fit his tactical approach.
Maresca confirmed in his pre-match press conference that Chilwell and other excluded players are training separately and that there are no updates on their situations. Maresca noted, “They are Chelsea players until they are not. But it’s impossible to give them all minutes. Those who want minutes are better off leaving.”
Chilwell will be absent once again for Thursday’s match against Servette in the Conference League. The former Leicester full-back joined Chelsea in 2020 and signed a contract extension through 2027 last April. He has scored nine goals and provided 12 assists in 106 appearances for Chelsea but was limited to just 13 league matches last season due to knee and hamstring injuries.
