Napoli are nearing an agreement to sign Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay, with a transfer fee of £25 million reportedly settled between the clubs. Manchester United will also receive a portion of the fee if McTominay is sold by Napoli in the future. Both teams are now waiting for McTominay to give his approval for the move.
McTominay, who has attracted interest from Fulham this summer, is set to have his contract with United expire at the end of the season. Although United has an option to extend his contract by another year, they prefer to sell him now. As a product of United’s youth academy, McTominay’s sale will be considered “pure profit,” which will assist the club in meeting Profit and Sustainability Rules.
According to The Athletic, Napoli’s Giovanni Manna has been in Manchester this week negotiating the deal. The 27-year-old Scottish midfielder has been with United since he was five years old, making 255 appearances and scoring 29 goals.
United plan to use the funds from McTominay’s transfer to pursue PSG’s Manuel Ugarte, their top target for the midfield position. They are expected to offer £51 million for Ugarte, who is reportedly eager to move to Manchester.
Meanwhile, Napoli representatives have also been in England this week to explore potential deals with Chelsea’s Romelu Lukaku and Brighton’s Billy Gilmour.
