Manchester United have announced that midfielder Mason Mount will be sidelined due to a hamstring injury. The 25-year-old, who joined the Red Devils in a £60 million transfer from Chelsea last summer, will face several weeks out of action.
Mount, who had a challenging debut season with only 14 Premier League appearances due to recurring injuries, had started both matches this season as he aimed to establish himself at Old Trafford. His latest setback occurred during the game against Brighton, leading to a forced substitution at half-time.
In a statement, Mount expressed his frustration: “I picked up a minor muscle issue during the last game. After getting it checked, it seems I’ll be out for a few matches. I worked hard in pre-season to regain my fitness and felt ready to contribute. I understand your frustration, and I share it. I’ll do everything I can to return in top shape and help the team.”
As a result of this injury, Mount will miss Sunday’s clash against Liverpool, and potentially the Carabao Cup match against Barnsley and the fixture against Tottenham on September 29. The club confirmed he will be absent for “the next few games.”
Fans have expressed their dismay on social media, with many reacting to Mount’s ongoing injury struggles. Comments ranged from disbelief to disappointment, with some questioning if this injury issue will define his time at Manchester United.
Manager Erik ten Hag will need to find a replacement for Mount, with Scott McTominay set to join Napoli and Manuel Ugarte’s move from Paris Saint-Germain still pending and requiring adjustment time.
