Brazilian talents Gabriel Magalhaes and Gabriel Jesus have lauded Arsenal midfielder Jorginho’s leadership and support after his move from Chelsea.
Jorginho, 32, joined Arsenal in January 2023, signing an 18-month contract with an option to extend for a transfer fee of £12 million. Since his arrival, the Italian international has become a major player at the club, appearing 51 times under manager Mikel Arteta.
Jorginho extended his stay at the Emirates this summer by signing a short-term contract that is reported to be for 12 months with the option of a year extension.
Despite arriving at Arsenal before Jorginho, Magalhaes and Jesus have developed a strong bond with the experienced midfielder, both on and off the pitch. In a recent YouTube video posted by Desimpedidos, Magalhaes expressed his appreciation for Jorginho’s influence, saying, “I don’t know what will be of me when Jorginho goes, he is like a father to me.”

Jesus echoed these sentiments, adding, “Jorgi is that annoying needed guy, he always stands up for what is right at the club and isn’t afraid of speaking up.”
The Brazilian players have praised the team’s togetherness, particularly the inclusion of a South American core, with easing their transition to life in England. This has been especially helpful for players who may struggle to adjust to a new culture and language.
Jorginho, who was born in Imbituba, Brazil, but opted to play for Italy because of his Italian lineage, has had a remarkable career, winning multiple club and international trophies.
Reflecting on his decision to play for Italy, Jorginho once remarked, “Choosing Italy was easy. Brazil never gave me the chance to fulfill my dream. Italy chose me to play for them, even though I was born in another country. When I needed help, Italy helped me.”
