Former Manchester United Midfielder Anderson Faces Jail Time Over £45,000 Child Support Arrears
Former Manchester United midfielder Anderson is facing potential imprisonment if he fails to settle an outstanding child support payment of £45,000. The ruling was made last week by Brazil’s Family Court Executive but was only officially disclosed on September 10.
According to the Daily Mail, Anderson could face a 30-day prison sentence if he continues to neglect his child support obligations. However, he may opt for a “semi-open” prison regime, allowing him to work and live outside the prison during the day while returning to the facility each night.
This legal trouble is not new for Anderson, who has previously been embroiled in serious legal issues, including allegations of theft, organized crime, and money laundering.
At 36 years old, Anderson retired from professional football in 2020 after a notable career, particularly with Manchester United from 2007 to 2015. During his time with the club, he made 181 appearances and scored 9 goals, contributing to United’s victories in 4 Premier League titles, 1 Champions League, 1 League Cup, and 1 FIFA Club World Cup.
In addition to his club success, Anderson also represented Brazil, winning the Copa America in 2007. He was awarded the “Golden Boy” title in 2008, recognizing him as one of Europe’s most outstanding young players at that time.
Despite his impressive football career, Anderson’s recent legal issues have cast a shadow over his legacy, leaving fans lamenting the troubled trajectory of a once-promising talent.
