MANCHESTER UNITED experienced a heavy 3-0 defeat against Tottenham at Old Trafford.
Captain Bruno Fernandes was sent off in the first half for a foul on James Maddison, leaving Erik Ten Hag’s team with 10 men against Ange Postecoglou’s side. After drawing their previous two matches against Crystal Palace and FC Twente, fans were hoping for a bounce-back against Spurs.
Unfortunately, the game took a turn for the worse quickly. Brennan Johnson scored early, and with Fernandes’s dismissal, Spurs capitalized and extended their lead to 3-0.
Here’s how SunSports’ Charlie Wyett rated the Manchester United players:
- Andre Onana – 5: Made a solid save against Timo Werner but had no chance with the goals.
- Noussair Mazraoui – 5: Received an early yellow for fouling Destiny Udogie and failed to block Micky van de Ven’s goal.
- Matthijs de Ligt – 4: Had a poor first half, unable to intercept the cross leading to the first goal.
- Lisandro Martinez – 5: Lost focus on the Spurs goal, leaving Johnson unmarked.
- Diogo Dalot – 5: Gave away possession in dangerous spots and struggled against Johnson.
- Manuel Ugarte – 5: Had a rough match and was fortunate to remain on the field until the 73rd minute.
- Kobbie Mainoo – 5: Not his best performance and was substituted just before halftime, possibly due to injury.
- Marcus Rashford – 5: Overran the ball for the first goal and didn’t keep pace.
- Bruno Fernandes – 4: Possibly the worst captain in United’s history; the red card was justified.
- Alejandro Garnacho – 6: Created United’s only first-half chance, hitting the post, and improved in the second half.
- Joshua Zirkzee – 5: Looked lost up front, raising concerns about another questionable signing by Erik Ten Hag; replaced at halftime.
Substitutes:
- Mount (for Mainoo 45) – 5
- Casemiro (for Zirkzee 46) – 7
- Hojlund (for Rashford 73) – 5
- Eriksen (for Ugarte 73) – 5
